I Had A Choice. Work Fast Food, Or Build Apps

Game Apps · August 3, 2026
At a certain age, the options look the same for almost everyone. Get a job somewhere that's hiring — usually fast food, retail, something entry-level with a predictable, capped hourly wage. That's a completely legitimate choice, and a lot of people start exactly there. It's also worth knowing it's not the only option available anymore.

A fast food job pays a fixed amount per hour, with a ceiling that doesn't move much no matter how good you get at the job. Show up, do the work, get paid for the hours worked, repeat. Reliable, and completely capped by design.

Building an app has no such ceiling. Describing an idea in plain English and getting a working version back the same day means the barrier that used to require years of coding education simply isn't there anymore. What replaces it is uncapped upside — a real app that works can earn far more than any hourly wage, with no ceiling attached to how many hours you clocked.

This isn't a guarantee, and it's definitely not easier than showing up for a shift. It requires real effort, real patience, and a willingness to fail at a few ideas before one works. But the choice between a fixed hourly ceiling and an unlimited one is worth actually thinking through, instead of defaulting to whichever option happened to be hiring first.
